Public Schools Versus Private Schools

Public schools don’t charge tuition, while private schools do. Even scholarships and other aid may not cover the difference. Public schools usually provide transportation for students who live more than a few blocks away, whereas private schools usually do not. With ninety percent of all American children in public school, public education is a uniting element and can be seen as an important factor in our democratic way of life.

Because public school education now includes magnet schools and charter schools, as well as traditional public schools, there are – right within the public education system – choices that have many of the features of education that used only to be attainable in private schools. As a result of receiving Federal funds, public schools must follow strict teacher certification rules, which do not apply in many private schools. As a result, public school teachers may, in some cases, be better qualified than private school teachers.
Researchers at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana found, when examining data from a standardized math exam taken by fourth and eighth graders, that if they excluded the influence of family background and socioeconomic factors, public school students did slightly better than private school students.Public schools often have more robust services than generalist private schools (i.e., those that are not focused on a specialty population with a particular disability) for assisting students with disabilities, both in terms of staff and funding.

Over the years, educators have been challenged by a number of federal, state, and local initiatives that profess to result in better educational outcomes for students. Highly marketed at their inception, many of the initiatives ultimately fade into obscurity, some absorbed as part of other programs. Examinations of tech prep and its relationship to school-to-work initiatives point to the distinctions that make each of the two programs unique and highlight the characteristics that make them similar.
Program focus is the most distinguishing feature that differentiates tech prep from school to work.Tech preps focus is primarily on school-based learning, whereas school-to-work programs also include work-based learning and linkages between the two. The distinction is less clear when the core elements required for tech prep vary among tech prep consortia, as they are reported to do(Owens 1996). For example, when tech prep adds elements that include work-based and career guidance components, it becomes similar to school-to-work, which may explain why some educators are seeing little or no difference between the two. Of the 100 persons surveyed at the 1996 American Vocational Association Convention, however, only 15 percent saw tech prep and school-to-work as being exactly the same (Bragg 1996).

Technology has really had a dramatic impact on every area of our lives in the last few years, particularly with the rise of smartphones and tablet computers. While those gadgets have had an undeniable effect on communication, business and productivity, one of the most interesting areas that they’re changing is education. Kids have access to an incredible range of different apps, from Spanish to math, history, science, biology and everything in between.
For homeschoolers, the last few years have brought huge blessings. You’re no longer limited to working only out of physical schoolbooks, thanks to Internet programs, online homeschool curricula, etc. However, apps for tablets and phones give you and your kids the chance to delve even deeper into subjects that interest them (and those that they might be struggling with).
For example, if you have a young reader struggling with English, the iPad app “How Rocket Learned to Read” is an excellent way to introduce kids to letter sounds, but it combines learning with animation and lots of fun. For older kids, Grammar Up HD makes a great way to brush up on grammar rules (it’s a multiple-choice quiz format, with over 1800 questions).
If your kids (like mine) have a love for science and the natural world, there are plenty of apps out there. Britannica Kids: Volcanoes is an awesome app for learning about volcanism, and Star Walk (one of my child’s FAVORITE apps) is an excellent introduction into astronomy and the star/planet details offered by the app are great.

The Kingdom of Yangdon

In the isolated kingdom of Yangdon lives a very liberal yet a very good king and queen. This kingdom is located in the ranges of Himalayas and Nepal. The people here are called Yangonese.

Yangdon’s landscape ranges from subtropical plains in the south to the sub-alpine Himalayan heights in the north, with some peaks exceeding 7,000 metres (23,000 ft). It is covered by 60% virgin forests and can be considered a cultural and ecological haven. The state religion is Vajrayana Buddhism, and the population of 691,141 is predominantly Buddhist, with Hinduism the second-largest religion.
Yangdon’s government is Absolute Monarchy. The Kingdom is headed by a king, presently King Anand, the well-loved and respected fifth Gyep of Yangdon. The Council of Ministers is called the Drukpah. The Drukpah is composed of men and women who have inherited the position from their ancestors. The King and the Drukpah holds the Legislative power in the Kingdom of Yangdon.

Visiting Mexico’s colonial cities is like falling through a crack in time, back to the 16th century–the heyday of the Spanish Conquistadores. Don’t miss the creepy mummies of Guanajuato, the opal sellers of Queretero, or Zacatecas and its silver mines. (When I was in Zacatecas, you could go dancing in one of the mines, and stay in a bullring that’s now a hotel.) There’s also the quaint art-and-crafts town of San Miguel de Allende; Dolores Hidalgo, birthplace of Mexican independence; and Morelia, home of the Museo del Dulce. This candy museum showcases over 300 varieties, many the original recipes of nuns. Here, Mexican food is aimed at Mexicans, and gringos–as well as sampling the restaurants, you can take a short cookery course. Plus, you can relax in spas, go horse-riding, and shop for great buys in leather.
Found in the heart of Mexico’s interior, this area offers a step back in time to the colonial era when Spanish influence thrived among elaborate baroque architecture and cobblestone streets along open, tree lined plazas. Recognized as the region that sparked the Mexican revolution in 1911, this area evokes sentiments of liberation and revolution and is still looked upon today as a source of national pride and independence. As a source of numerous authors and artists, the heartland of the colonial region provides nationalistic inspiration for the national conscience and retains the country’s independent spirit.

Each year in the UK alone, about 37,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Given that prostate cancers can be genetically quite different, means they affect the way in which they react to treatments. The Prostate Cancer Foundation and the American Association for Cancer Research have just announced a prostate cancer “Dream Team”, in which Professor Johann de Bono from The Royal Marsden and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) will be collaborating with other expert prostate cancer researchers in a $10 million global effort to drive the development of personalized treatment for this disease.
The other experts were selected from five leading prostate cancer clinical research centers in the US and London, including the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Broad Institute at Harvard in Boston, as well as The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center at The University of Washington in Seattle. The team also includes another doctor from the ICR and The Royal Marsden, Dr Gerhardt Attard.

Watch Out for the Coronary Artery Spasm

Coronary artery spasm is a temporary, sudden narrowing of one of the coronary arteries (the arteries that supply blood to the heart). The spasm slows or stops blood flow through the artery and starves part of the heart of oxygen-rich blood.

Medications that cause narrowing of the blood vessels (vasoconstriction)
Stimulant drugs such as amphetamines and cocaine

As an alternative energy source, windmill energy is showing itself to be an excellent resource. How will windmill energy benefit the United States and the world? Where is windmill energy being used?
Windmill energy has many benefits.

The first and most obvious one is that windmill electricity generation does not create air or water pollution, so it does not make any contribution to global warming. It is also known to decrease the greenhouse effect.
